Insulin vs Glucagon

  1. Phosphorilation = Dis-activation:
    • Insulin: dIphosphorilate (activator)
    • Glucagon: phosphorilate (dis-activator)
  2. Glycogen storage/release and phosphorilation (dis-activation):
    • Glycogen synthase (synthesis = storage)
      • Activated (di-phosphorilated) = fed stage
      • Dis-activated (phosphorilated) fast stage
    • Glycogen phosphorilase (glycogen degradator) in muscle
      • Activated (di-phosphorilated) = fast stage
      • Dis-activated (phosphorilated) = fed stage
  3. Insulin / Glucagon regulators (feedback):
    • cAMP and PKA (protein kinase A)
    • cAMP activates PKA in fast state
